Guests will be treated to a variety of traditional teas and snacks on the lawn at Horizon Hill, Territorial Governor A. J. Seay’s home. During the event, Dr. Alyce Webb will speak on the topic of Women and Wild West Shows. Registration is required and space is limited. Barn Quilt Workshop
What: Join us at the Chisholm Trail Museum on July 24 for our summer Barn Quilt Workshop. Barn quilts, which are square-shaped boards painted to resemble a quilt block and are placed on any structure, have evolved into a rural development initiative to boost tourism in communities. OSU Extension Educator Lindy Hoel will lead the workshop where each participant will complete their very own Barn Quilt to proudly display at home. Traditional Trades Day What: Join us at the Chisholm Trail Museum for Traditional Trades Day and discover historic occupations and heritage skills. Traditional trades and skills were the lifeblood of the community for decades where local craftsmen provided the items necessary for everyday life. Come explore a variety of demonstration including carpentry, wet plate photography, leather work, dressmaking, blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, flintknapping, laundry, traditional cooking, and more. When: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. August 21, 2021 Where: Chisholm Trail Museum Who: Family Friendly Cost: $5 for adults and free for children 16 and under
Chuck Wagon Gathering
Chuck Wagon Gathering What: Join us at the Chisholm Trail Museum for some cowboy fun. On Friday, a variety of wagons from across the region will demonstrate traditional chuck wagon cooking as they prepare historical cowboy meals using only traditional ingredients. Drop in Saturday for family day and see a variety of working chuck wagons as they prepare some of their favorite dishes. Activities Saturday include live music, cooking demonstrations, Straka Longhorns, gunfights, Wild West Show performers, and more. Cast Iron Cooking
Cast Iron Cooking What: In this casual, fun class, participants will learn to care for and cook in cast-iron cookware. Participants will create a Dutch oven delight and participate in a group meal. The class will explore historical and modern recipes while learning how to cook in your backyard. All materials needed for the class will be provided. This class is restricted to adults and children ages 10 and older. The cost for the class is $25 per person, or $40 per pair, and preregistration is required. When: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. November 6, 2021 Where: Chisholm Trail Museum Who: Adults and children over the age of 10 with an adult. Cost: $25.00 per person or $40.00 per pair.
